    Wrapping films

    What is wrapping film?

Stretch wrap, often known as stretch film, is a highly flexible plastic film that is used to wrap goods. The elastic recovery keeps the goods securely fastened. Shrinkwrap, on the other hand, is wrapped loosely around an item and shrinks firmly with heat. While it resembles plastic food wrap in appearance, it is not normally constructed of food-safe material.

Materials used to make wrap film

LLDPE, or linear low-density polyethylene, is the most prevalent stretch wrap material. It is made by copolymerizing ethylene with alpha-olefins, the most common of which are butene, hexene, and octene. The usage of higher alpha-olefins (hexene or octene) results in improved stretch film properties, notable elongation at break and puncture resistance.

How is wrapping films are applied in packaging solutions

Stretch film is used to wrap products on pallets and secure them to each other and the pallet. Helping to reduce product loss, discourage load tampering, and reduce worker injury. We explain in further detail in our blog post What is stretch film used for. There are a variety of widths, thicknesses, and types of stretch film.

    Key functions of wrapping film

    • better product or package stability, producing a unit load more efficient handling and storage of unit loads
    • A certain level of dust and moisture protection
    • A certain level of tamper resistance and package pilferage resistance
    • sun protection to some extent
    • increase the shelf life of some foods

Keeping boxes on the pallet and properly aligned is a critical factor in warehouse distribution, especially as the demand for higher throughput grows.

Advantages of using our wrapping films

    1. Wrapping your cargo with stretch film protects them from environmental hazards like dirt, dust, and moisture, keeping your product clean and dry while being fully visible. When stored outside, UVI stretch films help protect against UV radiation.
    2. Allows you to securely wrap your goods to produce a more solid load that is less likely to shift when being carried about in your warehouse by forklift, preventing product damage.
    3. Stretch film, when used with angle boards, allows you to stack your load higher on pallets in order to optimize cube space when storing or delivering your product.
    4. By grouping similar products together, they may be inventoried more readily and precisely, eliminating the possibility of product separation, which can make inventory counts inefficient and time-consuming. When utilizing a scanning system, clear stretch wrap will allow you to scan directly through it.
    5. Most stretch films are 100% recyclable and, if maintained generally clean, maybe recycled for cash, helping to keep them out of landfills.

The right way of applying wrapping films to a pallet

    1. Remove about a yard of stretch film from the roll, then press 8 to 10 inches of the end together to make a rope shape.
    2. Thread the rope section through one of the pallet's corners.
    3. It is not essential to tie a knot.
    4. Begin wrapping around the pallet's base.
    5. Wrap the pallet's bottom at least five times, keeping the film tight as it is peeled off the roll.
    6. Work your way up the box slowly, keeping a tight wrap in mind.
    7. The idea is for all of the goods to work together as one.
    8. Push the top boxes to test if they move or if they are joined to the bottom boxes once at the top of the pallet.

Different types of films and their usage

    1. Blown stretch films

Because of its excellent puncture resistance, this type of film is employed on high-force items. When you unwind the film for wrapping, it seems cloudy and dull, and it makes a lot of noise

    1. Cast stretch films

The cast film or cast wrap, also known as a cast film or cast wrap, has fantastic optics, is glossy, and has high tear resistance. They are thick and cling in a consistent manner. These movies unfold silently.

    1. Converted films

Before wrapping the product/item, this sort of film is stretched. Not only are converted films uniform and sturdy, but they can also be recycled. Aside from that, wrapping the load does not need many film revolutions. This not only saves you time, but it also saves you money on film.

    1. Machine stretch films

A stretch wrap machine is required to wrap an object with this sort of wrap film. Machine stretch film has a number of advantages over hand stretch film, including lower material costs, the convenience of usage, and safety. Furthermore, things are more secure as a result of effective packing.

What to keep an eye on when buying your wrapping film

    • What are the characteristics of the product? Is it, for example, hefty or light? For example, when pallets are not adequately covered, light cargo is in danger of being damaged. A pallet containing yogurt trays, for example, requires a different stretch film than a pallet containing hefty sacks. The type of film required is determined by the product.
    • What is the point resistance required, for example, to keep the film from ripping at the pallet's corners? What is the load's shape, and is it consistent throughout? What kind of pressure will be applied to the pallet? To provide stability, different sorts of loads necessitate different types of stretch film and wrapping patterns.

    • Another thing to think about is the sort of palette you're using. Pallets can be made of either wood or plastic. Each kind has its own set of quality standards.

    • Stretch film comes in a variety of colors. Transparent stretch film is the most common, while the colored stretch film is favored for some purposes. There is white stretch film, for example, that is resistant to sun radiation. Ideal for storing items outside. When you need to protect the contents of a product, such as new items or high-value loads, a black stretch film is an ideal answer. But it's also when your load is made up of a variety of things.

    • A simple machine can wrap a pallet but not stretch the film. This does not provide the necessary stability, and the expenditures per wrapped pallet are rather significant! The correct wrapper can stretch the film to its maximum potential, allowing for the creation of a sturdy pallet.
